Tasting our 2007 vintage wines.

Part 2 of our video series in which vintner Randy Sloan tastes through our entire lineup of wines. The 2003 Butterdragon Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is featured here.

Back before the silly season started, I had the chance to open and taste through all of our wines in a relaxed, private atmosphere.  It’s a rare occurance when I can try them all and be able to just concentrate on how they’re showing.

This is part 1: tasting the 2002 Butterdragon Hill.

Trying to get caught up posting my tasting notes on the blog…

  • 1994 Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (9/15/2010)Decanted for sediment. Wine showed best after about 20 minutes. Extremely pleasing appearance in the glass with dark color and thick, long legs down the glass. Pine needles, wet earth, black cherries, wood smoke. Tannins are a bit drying and dusty. Not a big wine with medium mouthfeel and a relatively short finish. While I don’t expect this wine to fall apart, I do believe it has peaked. Drink up this lovely wine. (92 points)

2000 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate – USA, California, Napa Valley
Delicate cherry, cedar, sage, and pencil lead flavors. While nicely balanced and pleasant with the meal, the light mouthfeel and short finish are noticeable. Drink up. (86 points)

2004 Snowden Cabernet Sauvignon Lost Vineyard – USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
Sweet cherries, vanilla, leather, black pepper. Oak notes come off a bit bitter (like burned nuts) and the tannins are dry and dusty. Could use more time. I thought this wine had more potential when I last had it in 2007. (85 pts.)

1998 Raymond Vineyard & Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve – USA, California, Napa Valley
Still a pleasure both for the character it retains at this old age (For the vintage) and the memories it brings back.

2006 Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux Meursault Les Terres Blanches – France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
I had this wine back in Nov 09 and had a better impression. But since I don’t have any purchase info on that bottle, perhaps I got it for free. THAT would have been more impressive. This bottle was quite lemony. Bright and pleasant but rather simple and a terrible value at $40 from a local retailer. (82 pts.)

2007 Osseus Wine Company Sauvignon Blanc – USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley
Consistent with the first bottle I had of this wine… really nice SB.
